On the master’s degree levels, Master of Science degrees in health science, radiographic practice, radiological science and biomedical sciences all offer advanced training in radiology and computed tomography. Unfortunately, there is no degree specific to CT. However, there are post-degree certificates in computed tomography and CT technology.
During a CT scan, x-rays pass through specific areas of your body at different angles and a computer translates them into images. The doctor that you are typically dealing with is called a radiologist who is one who specializes in reading images.
Most computed tomography certificates prepare the technologist for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam. These include Bachelor of Science degrees in radiologic sciences, radiation science technology and nuclear medicine technology. Computed tomography of varying advanced levels is a part of many bachelor’s degree programs in radiologic sciences.
Nowadays radiologic technologists have a great chance to get a certificate in computed tomography. There are several requirements for the applicants to a certificate program in CT. They must have at least an associate degree and be a registered radiation therapist or radiographer. There are also some certificate programs that require that students complete a certain amount of education in CT prior to entering. CT is also a part of a few Ph. D. programs in radiology.
It’s very important to underline that there are some programs that allow the student to earn part of the certificate credits online. Other portions must be done in the school or college in order to give eligibility for the AART certification examination.
